Day 3 at SAP TechED: 5 km and User Experience

Our 3rd day at SAP TechED began early. At 6:30 am, the Createch team participated in a 5 km race/walk on Las Vegas Boulevard. It was in honor of Diane David Gottheiker, supporting the "Women in Aviation International" cause. Everything went very well. We were confronted to several stairs along the boulevard, adding a significant level of difficulty! Subsequently, we resumed SAP briefings.

This day’s milestones revolved around "UX" (User Experience) or SAP Fiori. It is clear that SAP is looking to standardize the user interface to make it easier to use and more compatible with various platforms (laptop, tablet or mobile). SAP Personas is a component also available for an SAP S/4 HANA environment. It simplifies or changes the appearance of a user screen, on SAPGui as much as on SAP Fiori. I heard a few times today: "SAP Fiori LaunchPad is the strategic single point of entry for a user." The tiles will surely be featured in the coming years!

Regarding security, SAP Single Sign-on 3.0 is now available. This new version is backward-compatible with the previous 2.0 version. This component is a must for companies wishing to simplify authentication to different SAP environments, either on-premise or in the cloud. This release also provides a dual authentication mechanism, if required, such as Secure Logon Server, RSA SecurID, or with a mobile phone. In addition, version 3.0 no longer depends on Java or ActiveX which dramatically increases the number of browsers supported. This product definitely has a bright future.

Regarding the management of SAP HANA database, many tools are available. Each of them provides its own benefits: SAP HANA Cockpit, DB Control Center or SAP HANA Studio. For now, SAP HANA Studio is still available, but no future development has been planned, although no end date has been announced yet. Several things remain to be discovered for the administration of SAP HANA database. As mentioned in the last couple days: "HANA is not only a database, it is a platform!".
